Job Opportunity

The Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme enables workers from 9 Pacific Island Countries and Timor-Leste to work in priority sectors in Australia. A key component of this initiative is the Pacific Labour Mobility Support Program (PLMSP), delivered on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Key Responsibilities

The Special Projects Manager coordinates rapid responses to ad-hoc requests related to policy, thematic, and cross-cutting issues within the PALM scheme. Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to tasking notes and ad hoc requests from DFAT.
  • Project managing special projects and tasks as required.
  • Producing high-quality data-driven briefing, research, monitoring, and reporting deliverables.
  • Developing written policy feedback, ideas, and advice for senior government officials.
  • Developing talking points for senior government officials on complex policy issues.
  • Managing recruitment and procurement of specialist resources.
  • Providing coordination and secretariat functions.
  • Providing regular progress reporting on PLMSP special projects.

This role requires a strong understanding of Australian Government processes and policies, as well as excellent project management skills.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in management, economics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in policy and project management.
  • Experience working with the Australian Government, including DFAT.
  • Excellent understanding of Australian Government processes and policies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships with stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and presenting English skills.
