Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Medicine Specialist to join our team in Broome, WA.

This is a fixed-term, full-time appointment with the possibility of extension(s).

The role will commence on 1 December 2025 and conclude on 17 April 2026.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Public Health Medicine Specialist, you will provide medical expertise in the identification and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases. You will coordinate outbreak investigations and interventions, and collaborate with Aboriginal health staff and community-controlled health organisations to design programs that reflect local priorities.

You will also lead the disease control team and support the Public Health Manager in guiding strategies to protect and improve the health of the Kimberley population.

Your responsibilities will include managing notifications of infectious diseases, addressing conditions prevalent in the region, such as rheumatic heart disease, leprosy, melioidosis, and flaviviruses.

The Kimberley is Western Australia's northernmost region, known for its diverse landscape and sub-tropical climate. Broome offers a unique lifestyle with access to schooling and housing options.

Eligibility - Ideal Candidates Must Demonstrate The Following
  • Unconditional general and specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM), or recognised equivalent.
  • Willingness to apply for a Medicare Provider Number.
  • Ability to be based in Broome for the duration of the contract.
  • C Class driver's Licence and ability to travel, including overnight stays away from home.
  • Adaptable, culturally respectful, and committed to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley.
