Indigenous Education Role

This position plays a pivotal role in shaping and sharing Indigenous Australian stories with a national audience.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing, researching, designing, developing, refining and delivering high-quality Indigenous education programs to ensure accessibility and effectiveness.

The focus will be on developing innovative, best practice teacher and student resources linked to the Australian Curriculum from K-Y12 levels with a focus on digital resource development. This will involve engaging with Indigenous communities nationally to establish effective outreach education programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and refining Indigenous programs for schools based on curriculum for K-Y12.
  • Maintaining the quality, cultural relevance and cultural appropriateness of Indigenous education programs as per required standards.
  • Researching, developing and designing new innovative Indigenous education programs for a range of audiences in consultation with the Education team and other Indigenous staff.
  • Developing innovative digital resources for teachers and students which are culturally appropriate and respectful, that are linked to the Australian curriculum.
  • Engaging with internal and external Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural groups and relevant historical and scientific communities to ensure programs are culturally sensitive and robust.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Museum's priorities by sharing the national maritime story, developing compelling experiences for visitors, supporting reconciliation and contributing to the Museum's role as a trusted voice and custodian.
