Job Title

We are seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to join our Strategic Communications & Engagement team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced professional to contribute to public affairs activities, shape strategies, and enhance Council's position with the community and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations or similar field, along with experience in a similar role.

Demonstrated communications capability, ability to translate complex information into publicly accessible content, and good knowledge of public affairs, media communications, and stakeholder engagement disciplines are essential.

The successful candidate will be able to relate well to the public, elected members, media, management, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to public affairs activities and help shape strategies that maintain and enhance Council's position with the community and stakeholders.
  • Manage traditional and social media content and engagement.
  • Monitor community sentiment.
  • Develop and implement effective communication plans.
  • Foster strong relationships with the public, media, and stakeholders.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations or similar field.
  • Demonstrated communications capability and ability to translate complex information into publicly accessible content.
  • Good knowledge of public affairs, media communications, and stakeholder engagement disciplines.
  • Understanding of the local government context and working environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including content development capabilities.
