Job Overview

A marine operation in Darwin is seeking experienced general fishermen to join its crew. This role involves both sea time and shore-based duties, requiring a high level of physical fitness and strong communication skills.

Main Responsibilities
  • Handling ropes and wires, and operating mooring equipment such as winches and anchors.
  • Standing lookout at sea and adjusting the vessel's course as directed by senior crew members.
  • Assisting with other aspects of vessel operations, including maintenance and upkeep of fishing gear.
  • Casting and lowering nets, pots, lines, and traps into water, and hauling them back in once full.
  • Sorting, cleaning, preserving, stowing, and refrigerating catch to ensure quality and freshness.
  • Fish filleting and processing for sale or distribution.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the fishing vessel's operations are conducted safely and efficiently.
Requirements
  • Sufficient English language skills to perform all responsibilities efficiently and safely.
  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience working as a fisherman on a vessel.
  • Demonstrated ongoing commitment to work health and safety and duties of care.
