About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Substation Project Engineer. As part of the SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, this role will play a key part in the delivery of our AC substation design projects.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in project engineering, with experience in high voltage substation design and project management. They will be responsible for involvement in the full project life cycle, from project definition to project completion, and will work closely with our engineering and project management teams to ensure the quality of installations and minimal risk to network security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating technical scopes, site location plans, primary plant layouts and single line diagrams for new build and asset replacement type projects, operating up to 400kV.
  • Reviewing contractor/consultants detailed designs and witnessing factory acceptance testing.
  • Supporting site and operational teams to ensure the quality of installations, with minimal risk to network security.
  • Working closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to ensure that engineering and quality risks are identified and mitigated.

Requirements

  • A good awareness of the technical functions in Transmission, along with an appreciation of legal and regulatory obligations and project governance and engineering processes.
  • A self-starter attitude, who enjoys problem solving and has the ability to communicate complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and to prioritise workload.
  • An understanding of the legislation and implications of such for the management of the Transmission network for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
