About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Substation Engineer to join our Engineering & Design team at Western Power. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality substation engineering and design services in a safe, reliable, efficient, and commercially responsible manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team to design and draft substation projects
  • Apply extensive technical skills and knowledge to complete complex tasks to relevant standards
  • Prepare substation plant specifications and take responsibility for contract award activities
  • Provide technical advice to influence and formulate direction and strategy of the substation design
  • Prepare detail design arrangements and drawings for assigned projects
  • Provide mentoring and coaching on substation design to the wider Western Power community
  • Responsible for detail design/drafting related standard development and process improvements
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in the relevant Engineering Discipline, recognised by Engineers Australia as satisfying the academic requirements for appointment as a Charted Professional Engineer
  • Registration as a Member of Engineers Australia
  • Extensive technical engineering experience in a network business associated with the design and construction of substations
  • At least 10 years of extensive engineering experience in a utility networks design business
  • Sound working knowledge of other disciplines associated with substation design, including protection settings, SCADA and communications
  • Sound working knowledge of substation construction and commissioning practices
  • An understanding of risk and compliance management and its application in the business
