Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader Role

The Mental Health in Primary Schools initiative is expanding to every government and low-fee non-government primary school in Victoria.

As a wellbeing leader, you will play a key role in implementing a whole-school approach to wellbeing and mental health for students, staff, and families.

  • Promote a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing to students, staff, and families.
  • Support teachers and school staff to enhance their capacity to embed evidence-based mental health strategies, interventions, and programs.
  • Collaborate with school staff to inform, influence, and provide input into teaching and learning relating to mental health and wellbeing.

You will work closely with the school leadership team to embed whole-school approaches to mental health into school planning and strategic processes.

The role is not clinical and does not involve direct intervention. You will be a conduit in creating referral pathways once a teacher or other staff member identifies a concern in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote mental health awareness among students, staff, and families.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based mental health strategies and programs.
  • Collaborate with school staff to enhance teaching and learning practices.

  • Regular communication with teachers and school staff.
