Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) plays a vital role in Australia's energy landscape, ensuring the safe, reliable and affordable supply of electricity and gas. Our purpose is to enable the transition to a net-zero economy for Australia by 2050.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to join our team as an Energy Transition Communications Specialist. This role will play a key part in supporting our stakeholders, including rural communities, through effective strategic communications.

The successful candidate will possess excellent writing, editing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and communicate it simply. They will also have strong negotiation and influencing skills, with experience in the energy industry being highly desirable.

In return for your expertise, we offer a competitive salary of $120,000 - $150,000 per annum, plus additional benefits including flexible working arrangements, professional development opportunities, and a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

About the Role

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans to support AEMO's energy transition objectives.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure excellent outcomes in community engagement, media, social media, key stakeholder engagement and reputation management.
  • Draft, edit and direct the development of materials including fact sheets, FAQs, website copy, reports, project updates, presentation materials, media releases and social media posts.
  • Contribute to TCV website content and layout/design.
  • Support the review and approval of materials.
  • Liaise with media outlets on project-related queries and develop responses for approval.
  • Brief project spokespersons in advance of media engagement.

Your Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years' experience in journalism, stakeholder relations and/or communications.
  • Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex information and communicate it simply.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Experience in the energy industry is highly desirable.
