Disability Liaison Officer Job Description

The Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) is a critical role within Alfred Health that serves as the primary contact point for individuals with disability. This position is responsible for providing support and assistance to people with disability when accessing health services at Alfred Health and other community vaccination sites.

The DLO plays a vital role in ensuring that people with disability have equitable access to health services, including COVID-19 and general vaccinations, assessment, and treatment services. They work closely with a team of DLOs to address barriers that prevent individuals with disability from accessing health services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide indirect and direct support to individuals with disability to access health services
  • Assist individuals with disability to access COVID-19 and general vaccinations, assessment, and treatment services
  • Work across multiple locations, including hospitals and community settings
  • Collaborate with a team of DLOs to identify and address barriers to accessing health services

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Qualifications in nursing or an allied health discipline are desirable but not essential
  • Strong understanding of the needs and issues of individuals with disability and comprehensive knowledge of generic and specialist service options available to clients
  • Knowledge of coaching, supervision, and planning practices
  • Ability to remain up-to-date with related developments
