Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Collections Asset Manager to join our team at the National Trust for Scotland. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and improving the management of our digital collections, with a focus on rights management and information retrieval.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review the physical collections in the photographic library store against the current content of the digital asset management system (DAMS) to identify collections management and rights issues.
  • Develop and implement cataloguing standards for DAMS and the analogue photographic library to improve access and use of the NTS image library collections.
  • Design and implement a new framework for managing rights and compliance issues, providing support and training to collections colleagues across the Trust.
  • Establish collecting and disposal policy criteria for the analogue and digital NTS image library, working in line with the existing NTS collections management policy framework.
  • Implement workflows for good digital asset management, including acquisition, ingest, cataloguing, and retrieval, and work closely with the Digital Archivist to implement good practice in digital preservation.
  • Advise the Trust on opportunities for sharing content more widely, including making some content available under Creative Commons licensing and commercial exploitation.
  • Implement recommendations for the Trust's use of third-party sites for the sale of images and improve and manage internal processes for the sale of assets that cannot be sold via third-party sites.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Legal, Retail, and Customer & Cause on issues around licensing products and NTS brand licensing.
  • Be an advocate for rights management and better digital asset management across the Trust, working closely with colleagues across the organization.
  • Manage the NTS collections image reproduction service, answering requests from external and internal enquirers and managing all aspects of the service, including image licensing, sourcing, and resizing images from NTS systems.
  • Manage backlog projects to improve metadata and cataloguing in Portfolio Catalogues (DAMS) and removal of duplicates.
  • Develop the business case for a programme of commissioning new photography for the NTS image library.
  • Support and train NTS colleagues in the use of Portfolio.
