Job Title: Trauma Counsellor

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate counsellor to join our team in providing trauma-informed services to individuals experiencing complex mental health issues.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with support coordinators and workers across various sites, delivering individualised counselling sessions that address intersecting challenges such as grief, loss, trauma, crisis resolution, coping mechanisms, and related issues including violence, substance abuse, suicidal behaviours, family, and health matters.

This role aims to enhance short, medium, and long-term safety and wellbeing of clients while promoting healing through effective and quality services.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualified Counsellor, Psychologist, or Family Therapist (Social Worker) with demonstrated knowledge and experience in trauma, family violence, alcohol and other drugs, mental health, and homelessness
  • Demonstrated experience in therapeutic group work and/or educative programs
  • Ability to work in various locations, including Mandurah, and with diverse clients
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to complete comprehensive case notes and records
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a recovery-oriented model, utilising a person-centred approach
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Understanding of issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Relevant registration with a nationally recognised professional body
