Job Title: Strategic Financial Advisor

This permanent position supports senior leaders in providing strategic financial advice and insights to drive operational performance, project delivery, and commercial outcomes.

The role partners with executives to support decision-making through robust financial analysis, reporting, and business case development.

About the Role

This role is based in Canberra or Sydney and focuses on supporting management in meeting strategic and operational targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the business to consult and provide advice to executives and managers in the preparation and management of budgets and forecasts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Prepare and analyse timely and accurate monthly management accounting reports, ensuring commentary and analysis clearly explain key performance drivers for the relevant portfolio and provide recommended solutions.
  • Proactively investigate trends and anomalies, taking corrective action where required. Translate financial data into actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Support the development and analysis of business cases and project proposals, providing input to ensure alignment with financial and strategic objectives.
  • Prepare and review financial modelling and sensitivity analysis.
  • Assist the business portfolio in the month-end and year-end finance process, including accruals, time sheeting, capitalisation, and work order management.
  • Assist the business in defining, tracking, and realising project benefits, ensuring alignment with business case outcomes throughout and following project delivery.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A degree from a recognised tertiary institution in Finance, Accounting or Commerce.
  • Appropriate professional qualification (e.g. CA, CPA or equivalent), or a relevant non-accounting qualification (e.g. an applicable MBA) is desirable.
  • Experience with large financial management information systems (e.g. Technology One, SAP, Oracle, etc.) is desirable.
  • Experience in the financial services industry and/or project management is desirable.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen with proven success in building relationships at the Executive level to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence, negotiate, listen, and provide practical solutions to operational and financial performance.
  • Proven experience producing high-quality reports for senior executive or board-level audiences.
  • Strong numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Applied knowledge and experience of management accounting methods and procedures such as budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, with proficiency in Excel.
