Job Description
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Associate/Special Counsel to join our Workplace Relations & Safety team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for advising clients on complex workplace relations and safety matters, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, harassment, and safety prosecutions. You will work closely with experienced partners to provide strategic advice to businesses, not-for-profit organisations, local government, and educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting employment contracts and policies;
  • Advising on and assisting clients in enterprise bargaining and industrial action;
  • Defending clients against unfair dismissal, breach of award, and adverse action claims;
  • Providing guidance on legislative requirements and award conditions;
  • Representing clients in discrimination matters;
  • Investigating workplace incidents and providing WHS advice;
  • Implementing employment arrangements in transfer of business situations;
  • Developing and delivering training programs on workplace relations and safety laws;
  • Assisting with litigious matters, including attending conciliation and mediation conferences, instructing Counsel, and conducting hearings;

Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years post-admission experience in workplace relations and safety;
  • Proven expertise in handling workplace relations and safety matters, including dispute resolution and litigation;
  • A proactive and innovative approach to legal practice;
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities;
  • High legal standards, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong analytical skills and a solutions-focused mindset.
