We are seeking a Senior Animal Ethics Specialist to join our team at Monash University.

About the Role

As a Senior Animal Ethics Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the ethical, humane, and responsible care and use of animals for scientific purposes at Monash University.

You will be part of a newly constituted Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) that assesses the scientific, ethical, and welfare aspects of research and teaching activities involving animals.

The AEC is comprised of members across various categories, including veterinarians, scientists, animal welfarists, and lay members, with each category bringing valuable perspectives to the review process.

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues to ensure that research and teaching activities involving animals are conducted in accordance with the Australian Code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A qualification in veterinary science or a related field
  • Specialised knowledge of animal welfare, treatment, and advances in care for animal species specific to the AEC
  • Experience in furthering the welfare of animals
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comment on meeting materials, including project applications
  • Ability to participate in AEC discussions to ensure robust review of projects and effective operation of the Committee

You will also need to be able to attend meetings in-person.
