Family Support Specialist

The Women's & Children's Health Network provides state-of-the-art healthcare for women, babies, children, and young people across South Australia. We are the state's leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions as well as being SA's largest maternity and obstetric service.

We offer a range of community-based services that reach hundreds of thousands of babies, children, and young people, their families, and communities across South Australia through our various services and programs in areas such as mental health, child and family health services, youth health, and Aboriginal health services.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our multidisciplinary team as a Family Support Specialist in a part-time (0.6 FTE / 22.5 hours per week) ongoing basis.

The Family Support Specialist works as part of a team to improve the early identification, assessment, and care planning for families with complex needs and facing adversity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counselling, advocacy, and support to parents who face challenges
  • Encourage the best use of individual and family strengths and resources by working in partnerships with caregivers/families
  • Increase coping skills
  • Better develop problem-solving skills
  • Foster a positive outlook about their future
  • Gain a better understanding of where to seek resources/information in the future

Requirements

To be eligible, you must have an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification giving eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

You will use your well-developed ability to undertake comprehensive psychosocial assessments of families with young children utilizing contemporary best practice frameworks.

You should have experience in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating complex interventions including group work aimed at addressing psychosocial needs in families with children aged 0 to 3 years.
