Job Title:

Data Governance Manager

Overview

This role involves working in the Data Governance Section of a large organization, supporting and/or leading data governance initiatives.

  • The incumbent will be responsible for gathering, managing and administering data and meta-data from various sources, ensuring data quality and validity by providing advice on data policy, business and data quality rules.
  • The successful candidate will understand data governance in relation to analytical tools and techniques to enter, cleanse, administer, monitor, manage, backup, archive and/or destroy data to achieve complex business outcomes.
  • The key responsibility is governing the ethical use of data and developing, interpreting and complying with regulatory frameworks and data management requirements.
  • The Data Governance Manager will provide guidance on the management of risks associated with data use, balancing security and privacy against the benefits of collecting and sharing data.
  • The position requires building and sustaining strong relationships and negotiating with stakeholders representing various interests.
  • The incumbent will resolve problems and evaluate lessons learned using expertise, professional judgement and initiative to identify and recommend alternative courses of action and opportunities for continuous data governance improvement.
Required Skills and Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field

Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in data governance, preferably in a large organization

Skills: Strong understanding of data governance principles, excellent communication and negotiation skills, ability to work in a team environment
