Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal Service Designer to join a frontline government division undergoing a significant transformation journey. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in user-centred design to complex public sector challenges and help shape services that make a real difference in the community.

About the Role

This hands-on role will see you working closely with a newly established team to build internal service design capability. You'll collaborate with senior leaders to set the foundations for a dedicated service design function, develop practical tools and templates, and support the delivery of initial projects. Your work will help translate best practice into real-world solutions in a complex operating environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement practical service design tools and frameworks.
  • Provide coaching and capability uplift to leaders and staff.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of early service transformation projects.
  • Ensure service design integrates key policy concepts, including human rights, accessibility, trauma-informed practice, and user safety.
About You

You are a creative and collaborative service designer with a strong track record in:

  • Service design practices and processes, including blueprinting.
  • Public service design projects in frontline service delivery contexts.
  • Digital service transformation and applying design in complex environments.
  • Developing user-friendly tools and templates to embed best practice.

Desirable experience includes working on justice-related reform, building new service design functions, or knowledge of organisational design as it relates to service delivery.

  • 6-month contract (with potential for extension).
  • Based in Brisbane, working with a large and impactful public sector division.
