Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Technical Officer to join our team in maintaining the operational integrity of the EAF infrastructure. The successful candidate will have extensive practical knowledge with recirculating aquaculture systems and be able to work effectively in a supportive and output-focused environment.

About the Role:

  • Maintain the operational integrity of the EAF infrastructure to ensure continuous operation and minimal disruption.
  • Work under the direction of the Aquaculture operations Manager to introduce and acclimate new animals, produce stock salmon to meet future research needs, and perform day-to-day husbandry of experimental salmon according to written protocols.
  • Collaborate with IMAS, Huon Aquaculture, and Skretting representatives to achieve shared goals.
  • Assist the Aquaculture Operations Manager in establishing innovative and best-practice solutions for WHS, environmental sustainability, and waste management.
  • Support staff/student induction, training, and task supervision, while maintaining accurate records about EAF technical operations, salmon, and water quality.

Requirements:

  • Degree level qualification in aquaculture or a relevant field, or at least three years' work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience with aquaculture recirculation systems (RAS), with a strong practical and theoretical knowledge base.
  • Practical experience with routine daily maintenance and assessment of water quality.
  • Ability to manage day-to-day maintenance of farmed aquatic animals, including feeds and feeding schedules, and health.
  • Capacity to analyze and solve technical and non-technical problems, including system failures, equipment breakages, and unforeseen events.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call after-hours roster team and work over weekends and rostered public holidays (penalty rates apply).
