Indigenous Engagement Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Indigenous Engagement Manager to join our team and play a critical role in leading engagement activities for our High School Program and Redefining Indigenous Definitions of Success in Education project.

  • Spearhead the development of a long-term vision for the program, aligning with external factors and internal resources.
  • Drive program strategies, objectives, and plans in alignment with organisational goals and priorities as it relates to engagement activities.
  • Oversee the recruitment process of students into the program from school MoU sign off to student application approval.
  • Plan and execute program participant engagement activities including camps, one day engagements and family days, learning plans and other activities.
  • Design and coordinate training on program content, planning, assessment and pedagogy for program staff, Elders, and Mentors.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Identify and collaborate with external facilitators and organisations to deliver engagement activities and lessons.
  • Work closely with Elders on curriculum and pedagogy implementation.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with students, parents/carers, communities, curriculum experts, and key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups.
  • In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, plan and execute real-time and post-program evaluation processes with program participants, families, staff, Elders and Mentors, teachers, key stakeholders and independent evaluators.
Requirements
  • A deep passion for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
  • A leader who prioritises purpose and people, dedicated to achieving excellence, promoting well-being, and fostering personal and professional growth.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, organisations, histories, and the strengths and issues facing Indigenous people in Australia in meeting their aspirations.
  • Promote cultural, psychological, and child safety and encourage an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Well-developed written communication capabilities.
  • Ability to balance taking direction and exercising initiative.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, project management, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years experience in Partnerships, Engagement and Relationship Management.
  • Experience using Microsoft suite of programs and CRM.
