Role Overview

We are seeking an Indigenous affairs specialist to conduct in-depth research and reporting for a prominent Australian publication.

This position is available to candidates based in either Sydney or Melbourne.

  • Produce insightful news stories, features, analysis, and investigations on Indigenous affairs.
  • Develop unique content and cover stories using innovative approaches including live-blogging, social media, video, and interactive reports.
  • Engage with online platforms to promote stories and gather information.
  • Maintain strong relationships with and within Indigenous communities across Australia.
  • Collaborate with federal politics teams and state editors on coverage of Indigenous policy.

You will bring:

  • A thorough understanding of the issues affecting Indigenous Australians.
  • A well-established network of contacts within Indigenous communities across Australia.
  • At least five years' experience in national journalism, preferably working in digital news.
  • The ability to write in various formats as directed.
  • The capacity to generate ideas for news and investigations.
  • A good understanding of our core values.
  • A good understanding of media law.
  • Experience with video and audio would be an asset.
