Infrastructure Engineer Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join our team and play a key role in designing, securing, and optimising the Azure environment that will host GitHub Copilot Enterprise.

This is an Expression of Interest (EOI) for inclusion in our bid response. Role commencement is subject to contract award.

About the Program

The ATO's GitHub Copilot program will enable AI-assisted development at scale across federal teams, fully integrated into a secure Azure cloud environment and developer toolchain.

  • Business engagement and backlog planning
  • Secure configuration and infrastructure setup
  • Pilot deployment and performance validation
  • Enterprise rollout and optimisation
  • Transition to Business As Usual (BAU)

All aspects of the solution will align with ASD ISM, PSPF, and ATO ICT governance requirements.

You will be responsible for the design, deployment, and ongoing optimisation of the secure Azure environment underpinning the GitHub Copilot solution. Working closely with the Solution Architect, security specialists, and developers, you'll ensure the infrastructure is compliant, resilient, high-performing, and cost-effective.

  • Design and build Azure infrastructure (compute, networking, storage, monitoring) for GitHub Copilot Enterprise
  • Integrate with ATO identity management systems (Azure AD), security layers, and network boundaries
  • Implement ISM-mandated controls and maintain PSPF compliance across the environment
  • Configure High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), and backup strategies
  • Monitor infrastructure health using Azure Monitor, Sentinel, and related tooling
  • Continuously optimise the environment for performance, resilience, and cost efficiency
  • Collaborate with architects and security leads to align infrastructure with the overall design
  • Support infrastructure readiness for development, testing, and go-live phases
  • Investigate and resolve infrastructure-related incidents swiftly and thoroughly
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years' experience as an Azure Infrastructure Engineer, preferably in government or secure environments
  • In-depth knowledge of Azure networking (VNets, ExpressRoute, VPNs), firewalls, NSGs, and identity integration
  • Hands-on experience with ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform for IaC automation
  • Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) and AZ-305 (Solutions Architect) or equivalent experience
  • Proven history of delivering secure cloud-hosted enterprise solutions
  • Baseline or NV1 security clearance (required)
  • Experience integrating SaaS platforms like GitHub Enterprise into Azure environments
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (especially using Azure DevOps)
  • Knowledge of containerisation and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
