Job Title: Environmental Management Lead

The role of Environmental Management Lead is pivotal in shaping the future of our city's natural areas.


About The Role

As the lead for environmental management, you will oversee a team responsible for delivering diverse projects and programs related to natural area conservation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategizing staff deployment and resource allocation to prioritize and implement environmental initiatives aligned with council strategies and legislation.
  • Developing partnerships with internal teams, external organizations, and community stakeholders to support project delivery, funding, and environmental education.
  • Overseeing external engagements, project scoping, budgeting, reporting, and contract documentation using best practices in project management.
  • Providing specialist advice on biodiversity, sustainability, contaminated land, waterways, and contributing to strategic planning and initiatives.
  • Driving continuous improvement through technical innovation.

Qualifications and Experience

We seek a leader with the following qualifications and experience:

  • A recognized degree in Environmental Management, Park Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Class C Driver's license.
  • No less than 10 years of demonstrated experience in Natural Areas Management or similar.
  • Experience managing capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of natural area management principles and relevant legislation.
  • Skills in negotiation, advocacy, report writing, and people management.
  • Experience in policy development, budgeting, project oversight, and organizational planning.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues, manage priorities, and handle sensitive matters with sound judgment.
