About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Officer to provide technical support to the research of the Population Health Chemistry Research Group at the University of South Australia.

As a Technical Officer, you will be responsible for performing routine sample extraction and preparing calibration standards for analytical methods. You will work closely with researchers and postgraduate students to ensure an efficient workflow within the laboratory and a safe environment is maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine sample extraction and prepare calibration standards for analytical methods
  • Work closely with researchers and postgraduate students to ensure an efficient workflow within the laboratory
  • Maintain a safe environment in the laboratory
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments
  • Safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials
Requirements
  • Post-secondary qualifications in Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Experience working in a research laboratory with demonstrated experience in the day-to-day use of extraction techniques such as liquid-liquid and solid phase extraction
  • High-level skills related to undertaking sample preparation and a demonstrated record of preparing accurate solutions of standards and calibration curves
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of HS&IM requirements and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in the operation of a research facility
  • Excellent written communication skills suited to the preparation of reports
  • Proficient in the use of computer software for web and web database searching and data recording
