Sexual Assault Support Counsellor Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and committed counselling professional to join our Therapeutic Services team in Launceston, providing specialist clinical, support, and advocacy services to victim-survivors of sexual assault.

This is a fixed term part-time position available until December 2026, funded through the 500 Workers Initiative Grant. While the position is fixed-term, it is common for opportunities to transition into permanent roles as they arise within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist clinical, support, and advocacy services to victim-survivors of sexual assault and their non-offending family members and support system.
  • Participate in outreach services and educational program delivery.
Selection Criteria
  1. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in counselling, social work, psychology, or equivalent qualification, or occupational therapy with mental health accreditation.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of the impacts and dynamics of sexual assault and experience in trauma-informed counselling.
  3. Experience working with and counselling adults, young people, and/or children who have been impacted by sexual assault and violence.
  4. Demonstrates experience in crisis intervention, including the ability to effectively intervene, prioritise and manage crisis situations.
  5. A commitment to inclusive practice and proven capacity to meet the diverse needs of clients.
  6. Ability to quickly acquire a working knowledge of Tasmanian legislation and policies pertaining to sexual assault, child protection, and family violence.
  7. Demonstrates commitment to maintaining a child and youth safe organisation and to promoting the rights of children and young people.
