Sexual Assault Support Counsellor Role

The purpose of this role is to provide expert clinical practice, supporting victim-survivors of sexual assault and children and young people with harmful sexual behaviour.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver a high standard of trauma-informed clinical practice to victim-survivors of sexual assault and children and young people with harmful sexual behaviour.
  • Collaborate closely with the team to ensure comprehensive services meet client needs, including those who have displayed harmful sexual behaviours in North and North West Tasmania.
  • Build relationships with other agencies and stakeholders to improve service delivery and outcomes for clients.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and reports as required.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to maintain skills and knowledge.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in counselling, social work, psychology or equivalent qualification, or occupational therapy with mental health accreditation.
  • Demonstrate expertise in understanding the impacts and dynamics of sexual assault and experience in trauma-informed counselling.
  • Experience working with children and young people who use harmful sexual behaviour.
  • Experience working with diverse communities or lived experience of diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTQIA+, migrant, culturally and linguistically diverse and people with disability.
  • Understanding of sexual assault through an intersectional approach considering gender and other inequalities/oppressions that produce unique experiences of violence.
