VFX Trainer

The VFX Trainer is a key role within Industrial Light & Magic, responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training courses for new and current employees across all global studios. This position is based in Sydney and focuses on creating engaging and effective training experiences for ILM's global teams.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage Studio Talent Group programs within the Sydney studio, ensuring seamless integration and delivery of training content.
- Deliver virtual technical training courses to ILM employees worldwide, utilizing industry-standard software packages and proprietary tools.
- Create, evaluate, and maintain technical documentation using Confluence, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all training materials.
- Carry out shotwork in assigned productions, contributing to the creative process and ensuring high-quality visual effects.
- Partner with studio leaders to understand technical training requirements, identifying areas for improvement and developing targeted solutions.
- Work closely with the Training Coordinator to schedule and set up training sessions, ensuring smooth logistics and effective communication.
- Customize new starter technical training to meet the needs and goals of each trainee's assigned production, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Evaluate and report on trainee progress to the Director of Talent Development and relevant department managers, providing actionable insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Partner with Talent Management to identify and address gaps in technical ability, ensuring a skilled and adaptable workforce.
- Proven expertise in training and development methods, with a strong understanding of adult learning principles and techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster relationships across time zones and cultures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong technical skills, with experience in industry-standard software packages (Maya, Katana, Nuke, Houdini, Photoshop) or proprietary equivalents.
- Familiarity with G Suite (Gmail, Docs, Drive) and Linux, shell scripting, Python, and C/C++ (desirable).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation, or a related technical field.
- At least 8 years of production experience in visual effects for film, commercials, or television.
