Job Summary:

Your Role:

The VFX Trainer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training courses for new and current employees in all global studios, with a focus on ILM's Sydney studios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Studio Talent Group programs within the Sydney studio.
  • Deliver virtual technical training courses to ILM employees worldwide.
  • Create, evaluate, and maintain technical documentation using Confluence.
  • Carry out shotwork in assigned productions for 50% of the time.
  • Develop curriculum and documentation for entry-level talent, apprentices, graduates, interns, etc.
  • Partner with studio leaders to understand technical training requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Training Coordinator to schedule and set up training.
  • Customize new starter technical training to meet the needs and goals of each trainee's assigned production.
  • Evaluate and report on trainee progress to the Director of Talent Development and department managers.
  • Partner with Talent Management to manage gaps in technical ability.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the latest training and development methods and techniques.
  • Experience with industry-standard 2D and/or 3D software packages (Maya, Katana, Nuke, Houdini, Photoshop) or proprietary equivalents.
  • Familiarity with the G Suite (Gmail, Docs, Drive).
  • Knowledge of Linux, shell scripting, Python, and C/C++ (desirable).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation or a related technical field.
  • At least 8 years of production experience in visual effects for film, commercials, or television.
