Job Summary:

The VFX Trainer is a key role within Industrial Light & Magic, responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training courses for new and current employees across all global studios. This position requires a strong understanding of visual effects and the ability to communicate complex technical information to a diverse audience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage Studio Talent Group programs within the Sydney studio, ensuring effective training and development of employees.
  • Deliver virtual technical training courses to ILM employees worldwide, utilizing industry-standard software packages and proprietary tools.
  • Create, evaluate, and maintain technical documentation using Confluence, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Carry out shotwork in assigned productions, contributing to the creative process and meeting production requirements.
  • Develop and implement Jedi Academy curriculum and documentation for entry-level talent, including apprentices, graduates, and interns.
  • Partner with studio leaders to understand technical training needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Training Coordinator to schedule and set up training sessions, ensuring seamless delivery.
  • Customize new starter technical training to meet the needs and goals of each trainee's assigned production.
  • Evaluate and report on trainee progress to the Director of Talent Development and relevant department managers and production supervisors.
  • Work closely with Talent Management to identify and address gaps in technical ability.
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of visual effects and industry-standard software packages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster relationships across time zones.
  • Ability to step in and carry out shotwork as required by productions.
  • Experience with Linux, shell scripting, Python, and C/C++ programming languages.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or a related technical field.
  • At least 8 years of production experience in visual effects for film, commercials, or television.
