The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior / Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) team in Melbourne. This position will be based out of our Melbourne office and will involve designing, managing, and supervising projects as part of a global engineering consultancy.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to carry out detailed design and assume the role of design leader where required, coordinating with other engineering disciplines. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Group Leader with monitoring engineering/CAD resource requirements for each project within your control.
  • Carrying out engineering concept design to detailed design, tender, and contract on-site supervision to completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved.
  • Liaising with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant, to a consistent quality and standard.
  • Providing positive contributions to design/project meetings.
  • Maintaining regular 'in-house' design reviews and checks.
  • Monitoring and controlling project progress, design variations, and project financial budgets.
  • Monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments.
  • Maintaining excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Pursuing new business opportunities where appropriate with existing and new clients.
  • Assisting the Group Leader with identifying and implementing your personal training/CPD requirements.
  • Participating in Site Works as required.
  • Developing and maintaining good relations with various industry networks, clients, government agencies, sub-consultants, and construction contractors relevant to the MEP team's activities.
  • Assisting and coordinating design activities, processes, and other technical standards within the MEP and CSA services.
  • Undertaking technical reviews of the project at appropriate stages to ensure that the project approach and deliverables are achieved.
  • Actively participating in broader Office/Corporate activities as assigned or appropriate.
  • Performing other duties as directed.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Mission Critical Design / Data Centre Design Experience.
  • Successful project management experience in the MEP sector.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines.

Required Qualifications

The following qualifications are required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination, and project management experience.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
