Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic engineer or technician to join our team. You will apply your electronic, software, mechanical, and operational skills to enable scientific research on voyages.

The ideal candidate will have experience with assembly, repairs, and maintenance using hand tools and/or machinery, as well as excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

A key aspect of this role is providing up to 85 days per year of seagoing support, which may involve participating in research voyages on a research vessel, operating scientific equipment, performing maintenance, and reporting on equipment performance.

Between voyages, you will be involved in servicing, repairing, calibrating, and maintaining scientific research equipment, developing new instrumentation, control systems, and operational technology, and providing technical advice to stakeholders.

The position will be based in Hobart, Tasmania, and we will provide on-the-job training and mentoring in CSIRO-specific systems and seagoing procedures.
