Instrumentation Specialist Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic engineer or technician to join our team and become involved in impactful work on the Marine National Facility's blue-water research vessel - RV Investigator.

This unique role offers the opportunity to solve challenging technical problems, support iconic infrastructure, and enjoy flexible working arrangements.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in research voyages on the RV Investigator.
  • Operate complex scientific equipment.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of instrumentation.
  • Report on equipment performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of electronics and instrumentation support on the vessel.
  • Prepare detailed documentation and manage inventory.
  • Service and maintain equipment and tools.
  • Prepare and dispatch equipment to and from the vessel and remote ports.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvements in systems and procedures.
  • Analyse complex and ill-defined problems, develop solutions, and manage them through to delivery.
  • Liaise with clients to determine their needs and take personal responsibility for their satisfaction.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • The ability to fault-find and problem-solve complex faults in scientific instrumentation and electronic systems.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to undertake assembly, repairs, and maintenance using hand tools and/or machinery.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills, including demonstrated ability to clearly document software and produce manuals and reports.
