Substance Abuse Treatment Specialist

The primary objective of the Alcohol & Other Drugs Specialist Counsellor is to provide high-quality individual counselling, case management, and intensive day rehabilitation programs that are aligned with evidence-based practice principles.
Main Responsibilities:
- To deliver comprehensive engagement, assessment, counselling, and support services to clients and their families using best-practice approaches.
- To facilitate group therapy day rehabilitation programs in conjunction with other co-facilitators.
- To manage a caseload of clients by providing ongoing support, service coordination, referral, and advocacy to assist clients in achieving their goals.
- To work collaboratively with clients to develop, implement, and review individual treatment plans.
- To ensure continuity of care by effectively communicating within the multidisciplinary team and across interfaces with other healthcare providers.
- To provide pre- and post-rehabilitation support and relapse prevention planning tailored to each client's needs.
- To engage productively with relevant stakeholders and promote positive relationships.
- To adapt practice to meet the diverse cultural needs of clients.
- To maintain accurate and confidential records, data collection, and reporting consistent with professional standards.
- To articulate and discuss AOD-related factors with the team to inform service delivery and ensure alignment with best-practice principles.
- To proactively monitor and adhere to procedures, systems, and protocols to ensure continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities:
- To maintain accurate records, data collection processes, outcome measures, and reporting as required.
- To ensure confidentiality and adherence to professional standards in record-keeping and reporting.
- To complete all relevant documentation in a timely and clear manner.
- To deliver treatment services and report monthly on treatment outcomes.
- To pursue ongoing learning and professional development within the team to enhance clinical expertise.
- To participate actively in regular case conferences, presentations, and team discussions to share knowledge and best practices.
- To contribute to the development and growth of the Community Services team.
- To apply knowledge of social and psychological factors related to AOD use in practice.
- To discuss AOD-related factors with the team to inform service delivery and ensure alignment with best-practice principles.
- To conduct practice in accordance with professional standards, ethical principles, and codes of conduct.
- To provide culturally sensitive practice to meet the diverse needs of clients.
- To respect consumers' rights and maintain confidentiality while promoting consumer-centric service delivery.
- To acknowledge and appreciate diversity among individuals and families, upholding ethical standards in line with Lives Lived Well and professional guidelines.
- To emphasize the importance of engagement in building rapport and effective working relationships with clients and their families.
- To collect and consider consumer feedback to improve service delivery and ensure consumer satisfaction.
- To identify and address barriers, including communication and structural obstacles, to optimize service delivery.
