As a Blood Biobanking Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in advancing groundbreaking research and making a tangible difference in health outcomes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Timely retrieval and receipting of samples from delivery points within the laboratory or other designated areas.
- Efficient processing of samples according to project-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Cataloguing and secure storage of samples while maintaining specimen inventory accuracy.
- DNA and RNA extraction, including the 'work-up' of new research protocols.
- Inputting and maintaining detailed records in the OpenSpecimen Database, ensuring data privacy and confidentiality.
- Adhering to all safety protocols, conducting routine equipment maintenance, and reporting any issues promptly.
- Engaging in mandatory training and contributing to team operations as needed.
This is a fixed term position at a HEW 5 Higher Education Level located at HMRI - John Hunter Hospital New Lambton Heights.

We are seeking an experienced specialist who can work both independently and as part of a team to effectively manage workflow and priorities.
Key requirements include:
- Completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of an associate diploma and at least 2 years subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of a Pathology Technician's Certificate and extensive relevant experience as a technician; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Experience in processing blood, bone marrow and/or tissues in a laboratory setting
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team to effectively manage workflow and priorities
- Ability to adhere to established Standard Operating Procedures and willingness to handle infectious material (according to WH&S requirements)
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with private and confidential information
- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
- Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture
