Job Summary

This is a fixed-term employment register position with the Department of State Growth. The successful candidate will provide exceptional customer service and support the delivery of public programs and events at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG).

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service
    • Provide information on TMAG's programs, exhibitions, shop, and facilities to visitors.
    • Assist visitors in interpretation and connection with exhibitions and exhibits.
    • Resolve queries and direct visitors to appropriate sources for further information.
  • Public Engagement
    • Support TMAG programming and special events by performing tasks such as tours, ushering, and assisting in the delivery of public programs.
    • Accurately undertake retail operations in the shop, including processing sales and assisting with visual merchandising.
    • Assist with visitor evaluation projects, including data collection and visitor observations.
  • Facilities and Safety
    • Maintain the cleanliness of public spaces, exhibitions, displays, and the shop during shifts.
    • Ensure the protection of public areas, exhibits, gallery, and shop spaces to ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, the collection, and retail stock.
  • Support to Management
    • Provide support to management as required with various functions of the Visitor Services Team.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of quality and efficiency of services and work processes within the Visitor Services Team.
Pre-Employment Requirements

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this role is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion, or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted.

  1. Conviction Check
    • Crimes involving dishonesty.
Desirable Requirements
  • A current First Aid qualification from a recognised provider or ability to obtain a First Aid qualification within the first three (3) months of commencing employment.
  • Current driver licence with the ability to operate manual vehicles.
