About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Research and Innovation Director to lead our Cosmetic Development team in Melbourne. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for fostering creativity and productivity within our dynamic R&D laboratory.

Job Description
  • Manage a skilled Research & Development team, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development to ensure a culture of excellence, teamwork, and innovation.
  • Oversee the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to discontinuation, ensuring products meet continuous improvement and optimisation standards.
  • Ensure formulations align with current and future market demands and consumer needs.
  • Ensure compliance with TGA and GMP standards in the R&D laboratory.
  • Develop innovative personal care products to enhance the product portfolio.
  • Improve and streamline the product development process to enhance speed to market and reduce costs.
  • Manage projects effectively to meet target cost and timeline objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and enhancements in existing formulations and procedures.
  • Monitor global trends and changes within the personal care category to inform product development.
About You

The ideal candidate will be a qualified scientist with substantial experience in the formulation and development of personal care products, ideally sunscreens. They will possess:

  • A Diploma or degree qualification in science (a Master's or PhD is desirable).
  • Substantial experience in research and development of personal and/or sun care products, including familiarity with relevant technologies and equipment.
  • Experience in R&D at a contract manufacturing company is highly regarded.
  • Substantial demonstrated experience in a senior R&D leadership role.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of TGA regulations and standards related to personal care, sun care, and cosmetics to ensure compliance with relevant government legislation and industry regulations.
  • Experience in developing and managing R&D budgets and allocating resources effectively.
  • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to align R&D efforts with overall business goals and market trends.
  • Strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
  • Experience in monitoring and managing the progress of multiple projects, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards.
