Critical Care Medical Officer

The Friendly Society Private Hospital is in search of dedicated Medical Registrars to deliver exceptional onsite medical services within our Critical Care Unit, which encompasses both Coronary and Intensive Care. You will collaborate closely with a team of experienced specialists and nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in comprehensive clinical care, guided by our credentialed medical specialists and the Director of Critical Care.
- Perform thorough patient evaluations upon admission to the Critical Care Unit, working in conjunction with the specialist team to devise care plans.
- Participate in patient rounds, accurately document ongoing management, and effectively communicate treatment objectives with the nursing team.
- Address patient concerns and respond to deteriorating conditions as a member of the medical emergency team.
- Execute necessary medical procedures, including PIVC, CVC, PICC, and arterial cannulation.
- Manage patients on mechanical ventilation, demonstrating proficiency in intubation and airway management.
- Assist with procedural sedation within the unit as needed.
The CCU Registrar will work in 12.5-hour shifts, following a 7 days on, 7 days off alternating day and night roster. Opportunities for additional hours may arise to cover absences and during peak periods.
Candidate Profile:

Essential Qualifications:
- A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with general registration from the Medical Board of Australia.
- Prior postgraduate experience in acute or critical care (mandatory).
- Advanced procedural skills, including adult and pediatric advanced life support, arterial line insertion, and central line insertion (CVC & PICC).
- In-depth medical knowledge regarding the pathophysiology and management of diverse critical illnesses.
- Strong clinical understanding of cardiac and acute coronary syndrome management.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation applicable to the role.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- A robust work ethic with the capacity to perform under pressure, prioritize tasks, and organize workloads effectively. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve positive patient outcomes in collaboration with the specialist and nursing teams.
- Capability to function as an effective team member while delivering high-quality customer service to internal staff, patients, and their families.
