Job Summary:

Claims Specialist Role

This position is responsible for handling claims in a professional and efficient manner. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and possess a strong understanding of insurance policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse first reports of claim to determine nature of loss, coverage provided, and scope of damage.
  • Conduct or direct investigations relative to all aspects of reported claims, secure and/or file supporting documentation, and verify accuracy, relationship, and completeness.
  • Establish accurate and timely reserves.
  • Maintain an active diary to achieve timely development of files and timely disposition.
  • Provide exceptional service standards in line with best practice guidelines.
  • Practice sound litigation controls over counsel.
  • Promptly document all developments in the claim file.
  • Meet with appropriate parties to resolve issues.
  • Effectively communicate with various stakeholders including Claim Department, Customer Services, Loss Control, Underwriting Departments, brokers, insureds, counsel, third parties, and their legal representatives.
  • Direct claim representatives to participate in file development and subrogation.
  • Adhere to Insurance Contracts Act and other relevant statutory rules and regulations.
  • Exercise good judgment in reaching final claim disposition by evaluating nature of loss, liability, injury/damage, coverage provided, and applicable limits.
  • Participate in marketing efforts.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification (law degree desirable but not required).
  • Claims experience.
  • Written and verbal communication skills relative to claims handling.
  • Insurance policies and the Insurance Contracts Act.
  • Legal requirements and regulations.
  • Damage and/or loss evaluation.
  • Negotiations.
  • Industry trends.
  • Litigation procedures.
  • Reserving skills.
  • Chubb Claims Philosophy.
