About the role

As part of our ongoing contract with a government department, we have an opportunity for a qualified and experienced Security Operations Manager to join our team. This is a full-time permanent position that requires flexibility around working hours at times.

This role will see you as a critical member of our management team, providing vital support and assistance in delivering an effective and efficient service. You will ensure the correct deployment of staff across the region and be responsible for the day-to-day performance of your team.

About you

You are approachable and possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills, adopting a collaborative and team-based approach to people management. You are analytical and a natural leader who can drive and embed best practice service delivery through the commitment of our people.

You possess excellent organisational capabilities and can identify and prioritise problems and issues, generate solutions and work collaboratively to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. You have a high degree of motivation, energy and initiative, with the capacity to deal with multiple and often conflicting priorities.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Supervising staff in the manned court area
  • Preparing duty rosters, including allocating daily duties and staff
  • Keeping abreast of and promoting best practice trends to ensure they are embedded with the highest standard of governance, quality & compliance
  • Supervising the handling of persons in custody to ensure they are dealt with in a caring and humane manner
  • Maintaining a direct relationship with the control function that manages the operation
  • Liaising with the court coordinator on all staffing matters
  • Checking all warrants and other relevant official paperwork in your delegated court
  • Ensuring that all courts within the cluster are effectively manned
  • Positively contributing to a diverse, inclusive and fair work environment, free from discrimination, bullying and harassment

Skills and experience

  • Certificate III in Corrective Practice (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Control and restraint qualified
  • Senior first aid & CPR or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and supporting staff, preferably within a custodial environment
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and customer-focused quality service delivery
  • Thorough knowledge of the PIC court and custody business
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong leadership potential
  • Great computer skills for the purposes of reporting and ensuring the data capture management system is kept up to date
  • Ability to problem solve and act on your own initiative

Eligibility criteria

  • Australian permanent residency or citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian federal police check, criminal history check & working with children check
  • Undergo a satisfactory pre-employment medical including a drug & alcohol test
