Job Title: Strategic Effects and Targeting Officer

Job Description:

The Military Strategic Effects (MSE) team is responsible for providing strategic support to Defence senior leaders. As a Strategic Effects and Targeting Officer, you will play a critical role in enhancing Defence understanding of current and emerging threats.

You will lead the intelligence planning effort for discreet strategic planning activities and coordinate direct liaison with relevant national intelligence community and multinational intelligence stakeholders. Your key responsibilities will include:

- Managing and coordinating interagency and multi-disciplinary planning activities informed by strategic Defence policy and intent.

- Developing and monitoring activity-specific strategic assessment or evaluation frameworks.

- Drafting briefing materials, intelligence assessments, and other relevant documents in support of MSE.

- Managing arrangements for divisional representation at senior departmental and interdepartmental committees.

About Our Team:

Military Strategic Effects (MSE) Branch provides support to the operational and strategic levels through preparation of strategic information activities, engagement and strategic effects and targeting support. This enables management of strategic and reputational issues in order for Defence Senior Leaders to appropriately engage with Government, other agencies, allies, coalition partners and also the Australian and international communities.

Key Functions Performed by MSE Branch Include:

- Management of strategic effects and targeting for Defence senior leadership.

- Coordination of multilateral military-military engagement on behalf of Defence senior leadership.

- Development of information activities strategies and guidance to support management of strategic-level issues for Operations and ADF-wide reputational matters.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • - Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership attributes conducive to interagency and multi-disciplinary planning activities.
  • Ability to analyse and synthesise complex information and translate it into succinct, logical advice to inform decision making.
  • Comprehension of strategic risk and mitigation measures.
  • Experience, or demonstrated potential, to provide intelligence inputs to planning and execution at the strategic level.
  • Demonstrated ability, or interest in, solving complex problems through the development of creative solutions.
  • Capacity to build effective internal and external policy, operations and intelligence stakeholder relationships.
