As a leading player in Australia's emerging high-quality coal basin, Whitehaven Coal is seeking an experienced Specialist to join its HSE team. The role reports directly to the Superintendent Group - Environment and provides support for NSW and QLD operational sites compliance with environmental regulations.

You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring group environmental policies and procedures to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable practices. This will involve driving a culture of environmental stewardship and compliance throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of regulatory processes in the mining sector and excellent written and verbal communication skills. They should also possess excellent problem-solving skills and great attention to detail.

We are looking for a flexible individual who can work from our offices in NSW or QLD, with regular travel to our NSW and QLD sites as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide timely advice to operational sites Environment Teams to support all NSW and QLD sites compliance requirements
  • Development and governance of environmental improvement projects to support HSE strategic initiatives
  • Provide direct support to the maintenance and improvement of environmental compliance outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and increase value through the use of data analysis and risk
  • Review legislative updates and changes that may affect environmental compliance outcomes
Requirements:
  • Degree qualifications in Environmental Sciences or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role, heavy industry / mining industry experience preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory processes in the mining sector
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and great attention to detail
