The Friendly Society Private Hospital is currently in search of Medical Registrars to deliver comprehensive medical services to patients within our Critical Care Unit, which encompasses both Coronary and Intensive Care. This role involves collaboration with a dedicated team of specialists and nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in all facets of clinical care, guided by our accredited medical specialists and the Director of Critical Care.
  • Conduct thorough patient evaluations upon admission to the Critical Care Unit, working closely with the specialist team to devise care plans.
  • Participate in patient rounds, document ongoing treatment, and communicate care objectives with the nursing team.
  • Address patient concerns and respond to deteriorating conditions as a member of the medical emergency team.
  • Perform essential procedures as needed, including Peripheral Intravenous Catheter (PIVC), Central Venous Catheter (CVC), Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC), and arterial cannulation.
  • Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, demonstrating proficiency in intubation and airway management.
  • Assist with procedural sedation within the unit when necessary.

The Critical Care Registrar will work 12.5-hour shifts, alternating between day and night rosters in a 7 days on, 7 days off schedule. Additional hours may be available to cover staff leave and during peak periods.

Essential Qualifications:

  1. A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with general registration from the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Prior postgraduate experience in acute or critical care (mandatory).
  3. Advanced procedural skills, including adult and pediatric advanced life support, arterial line insertion, and central line insertion (CVC & PICC).
  4. In-depth medical knowledge regarding the pathophysiology and management of various critical illnesses.
  5. Comprehensive understanding of cardiac conditions and acute coronary syndrome management.
  6. Familiarity with relevant legislation governing the role.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  8. Strong work ethic, capable of performing under pressure, prioritizing tasks, and organizing workloads independently to achieve favorable patient outcomes in collaboration with the specialist and nursing teams.
  9. Ability to function effectively as a team member while providing high-quality service to internal staff, patients, and their families.
