
Linux Kernel Engineer

As a Linux kernel engineer, you will play a key role in enhancing the performance and functionality of Ubuntu Linux on various System On Chip (SoC) platforms.
About the RoleOur team is responsible for building and maintaining the Linux kernel for Ubuntu. We are seeking skilled engineers to join us, who can work collaboratively with a globally distributed team and closely with silicon vendor partners.
You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving issues in the kernel reported by partners, customers, and the community. Additionally, you will deliver distinct silicon-optimised variants of the Ubuntu Linux kernel and improve tooling and automation for its delivery and test.

RequirementsTo succeed in this role, you will need:
- A strong foundation in software development at the hardware level
- A passion for ensuring optimal performance from silicon
- Significant programming ability in C
- A solid background in device drivers, BSP's, and other aspects of hardware-level system engineering
- An understanding of operating system kernel fundamentals
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
The following skills are desirable but not required:
- Python and Bash scripting ability
- Prior background with the major SoC families
- Ubuntu/Debian/Snap packaging
- Demonstrated experience with Linux kernel patching and debugging
- Solid understanding of performance optimisation for silicon platforms
