Job Description

A dynamic opportunity exists for an experienced Energy Management Strategist to join our team at Optus, driving sustainability across the portfolio and its assets.

About the Role

This key role reports to the Director Infrastructure Services and is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the Optus Energy Management System (EnMS). The successful candidate will develop and implement the organisation's energy management policy, set achievable targets for energy use, and design action plans to achieve these targets with ongoing measurement and reporting of progress.

The Day-to-Day
  • Develop strategic approaches to energy efficiency that enhance return on investment and reduce ongoing costs.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability team to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions through renewables strategies.
  • Implement water consumption reduction strategies.
  • Design a comprehensive data management strategy around energy, water, refrigerant, gas, and diesel.
  • Manage outsourced utility management partners.
  • Monitor energy cost modelling and forecasting, tracking against targets.
  • Identify and report on energy saving opportunities to larger stakeholder groups.
  • Reduce business risks associated with rising energy prices and inefficient energy use.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • A degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Certified Energy Manager status.
  • Strong working knowledge of the energy sector in Australia, including current challenges and the need for sector transition.
  • A good technical understanding of various equipment and processes used in the electricity generation sector and key issues affecting each technology.
  • Relevant experience in energy management, energy efficiency, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship management, and leadership skills.
