About the Opportunity

The University of New South Wales is seeking a highly experienced and accomplished professional to lead the Katharina Gaus Light Microscopy Facility (KGLMF) as a Head/Director. The successful candidate will have a strong research track record in light microscopy techniques and experience in managing advanced light microscopy platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 13 in managing one of Australia's largest light microscopy facilities
  • Member of the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre management team
  • Strategically plan for new core and innovative instrumentation in the facility that service the future needs of the research community of UNSW
  • Secure external funding and liaise with key stakeholders, partnerships, and networks

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the facility, including 13 direct reports. They will have advanced knowledge of advanced light microscopy techniques, experience in overseeing the operations of a cutting-edge multiuser facility and have a strong focus on developmental instrumentation and collaborative engagement with commercial suppliers.

Requirements
  • PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, or Life Sciences
  • Leading authority in Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, or Life Sciences
  • Experience in managing advanced light microscopy platforms
  • Strong research track record in light microscopy techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team
  • Experience in training, teaching, and supervising in a multiuser research environment
  • Knowledge of research ethics, integrity, compliance requirements, and UNSW health and safety policies
