
Healthcare Infection Prevention Specialist

The role of a Healthcare Infection Prevention Specialist is pivotal in upholding the standards of infection prevention and control within an acute healthcare setting. This involves ensuring adherence to national safety and quality health service standards, staff health education, hospital reporting and benchmarking, and collaborating with department managers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Implementing and managing the hospital's infection prevention program, including monitoring systems, risk assessments, antimicrobial stewardship, hand hygiene activities, reprocessing of reusable medical devices, auditing, and reporting.
- Participating in facility planning for accreditation and external audits.
- Maintaining a system for collecting, evaluating, reporting, and monitoring data related to healthcare-associated infections, including VICNISS surveillance activities.
- Providing expertise on workforce vaccination and coordinating immunisation data management systems.
- Reporting to the Infection Prevention and Control Committee on infection prevention and control activities, NSQHS Standard compliance, and scheduled audit reports.
- Participating in education, training, and competency assessment for staff in infection prevention and control, as well as ongoing education programs.
- Collaborating with Accredited Medical Practitioners on data analysis and reporting.
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in infection prevention and control or a related field.
- Registered nursing experience with a minimum of 5 years.
- A minimum of 12 months of experience working in an infection prevention and control role within an acute healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting effective infection prevention and control in a hospital setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships.
- Knowledge of relevant legislative requirements, Australian standards, and international best practices in infection prevention and control, sterilising services.
