Veterinary Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our team at a leading veterinary teaching hospital in Queensland.
About the Role:This is a permanent, full-time position working 38 hours per week across 4 shifts, Monday to Friday. As a Veterinary Nurse in our Referral Services team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, clinical support to veterinarians, and effective communication between all services within the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide first-class nursing care to patients, including complex treatment plans and assistance with surgical and medical procedures.
- Assist veterinarians with consultations, paperwork, and emergency and critical care situations.
- Perform CPR, triage patients, communicate findings, and assist with patient stabilization and care.
- Assist with anaesthesia assessments and management, surgical and medical procedures, and diagnostic procedures.
- Follow infection control policies and procedures, including hospital cleaning, sterilization, and waste disposal.
- Assist with patient referrals between services within the hospital and provide mentorship to undergraduate veterinarians.
- Recognized veterinary nursing qualification, such as Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor in Veterinary Technology.
- RECOVER CPR training or willingness to obtain.
- Queensland radiation licence.
- Membership with VNCA or similar industry body.
- Veterinary Nursing Diploma, VTS qualification, or other recognized advanced qualifications.
- At least two years of previous veterinary nursing experience.
- Advanced knowledge of small referral procedures and terminology.
- Experience in low-stress animal handling techniques.
- Sound knowledge of common medications, including dispensing and administration.
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional client care using advanced medical knowledge.
- Well-developed organizational skills, with the ability to multitask efficiently.
- Sound computer and administrative skills.
- Familiarity with RxWorks or equivalent record management software.
- High level of flexibility, initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Courteous, supportive, and collaborative, with the ability to work across teams.
- Enthusiastic with a positive attitude to work, problems, and challenges.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Sound level of computer skills and ability to adapt to different systems.
- Confidence in handling a variety of animal species.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with relationship-building skills.

- Paid hourly rate.
