Junior Doctor Position in Emergency Surgery Unit">

The Tasmanian Health Service aims to deliver high-quality healthcare and improve the well-being of our community.

We are seeking a junior doctor with the necessary skills and qualifications for a 12-month role in the Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This position is ideal for doctors pursuing a career in General Surgery, but it can also provide valuable experience in other surgical and critical care specialties.

  • Admission of patients
  • Care of patients in the wards, including daily ward rounds
  • Attending Specialist and Registrar ward rounds and recording all decisions made in the medical history
  • Timely responses to calls from the patient's care team
  • Ensuring consultations occur when requested
  • Interacting with families or carers of hospital patients
  • Accurate and timely recording of drugs and treatment
  • Checking and signing result sheets for investigations
  • Undertaking procedures as required
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Medical Practitioner Level 5 qualification
  • Relevant experience in General Surgery or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

About the Role

This is a full-time, fixed-term position commencing on 2 February 2026 until 1 February 2027. The successful applicant will be required to work 76 hours per fortnight plus 10 hours protected training time.
