
Leading Shelter Operations Specialist

This role is at the heart of shelter operations, guiding daily activities to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for both animals and staff.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead shelter operations, driving continuous improvement while supporting staff development, planning, and community engagement.
- Bridge the gap between strategic vision and day-to-day execution, making key decisions and reporting outcomes in line with Council values and goals.
- Supervise a small team, including rostering, task allocation, and performance management.
- Manage animal care, impounding, rehoming, and compliance with relevant legislation.
- Handle challenging or emotional customer interactions in a public-facing environment.
- Coach staff, engage with stakeholders, and foster a positive team culture.
- Prioritise tasks, make decisions under pressure, and deliver outcomes.
- Certificate III in Companion Animal Services (or equivalent experience) and Cert IV in Leadership and Management, or 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proven leadership skills and strong shelter operations knowledge.
- Excellent communication skills and high-level organisational skills.
- Experience with digital animal management systems and sound knowledge of WHS responsibilities.
- Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical prior to commencement and hold a C Class Drivers Licence.
The successful candidate will be able to effectively lead and manage a small team, providing guidance and coaching to achieve outstanding results. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building effective relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.
