Uniting Counselling and Mediation is a highly regarded organisation providing quality services and strong connections with Family Law stakeholders.

This role involves working with diverse clients across our counselling programs, including individuals, couples, and post-separation families.

Job Description:

We're seeking a passionate Child And Family Therapist to provide individual, couple, and family counselling to support families and deliver therapy across a range of Uniting's counselling programs. This permanent part-time role offers 3–4 days of work per week and is based in Newcastle.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality therapy to individuals, couples, and families to repair and strengthen relationships.

You will provide child consultations using child-inclusive practices for families navigating separation or divorce, including involuntary and court-ordered cases.

Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners, is also a key aspect of this role.

You will work with clients experiencing high conflict and complex challenges, including those referred by courts.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, or a related field;
  • Proven experience providing therapy, including with individuals, couples, and families;
  • Strong ability to manage high-conflict individuals, couples, and families;
  • Experience addressing issues of violence and an understanding of child protection;
  • Competence with program targets and client management systems.

Desirable Skills:

While not essential, the following skills would be advantageous:

  • Membership eligibility with professional bodies (e.g., AASW, APS, PACFA);
  • Postgraduate training in individual, couple, or family therapy;
  • Experience working within a Family Law context.

  • A competitive salary of approximately $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience;
